In 1945, Rolex introduced the 'Datejust'. This watch became Rolex's flagship watch. In the early 50's, Rolex introduced the 'Tru-beat', 'Milgauss', 'Turn-O-Graph', 'Submariner', 'Oysterdate', 'President and the 'Explorer'. The Tru-beat watch functioned as a standard watch, however, the second hand would jump from marker to marker instead of sweeping around the dial. The Milgauss as the name implies was built to handle strong magnetic fields in certain industries e.g., power plants, research labs, etc. The Turn-O-Graph was simply a standard Rolex watch with second markers to allow consumers to time themselves. The Submariner used almost the same movement as the Turn-O-Graph, however, was pressure tested to 200 meters. The President contained the Day and Date and replaced the Datejust as the flagship model for Rolex. The Explorer was named in honor of the Everest expedition that climbed Mt. Everest, in May 29,1953. The real distinctive feature of the Explorer is the large luminous triangle marker at 12 with Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9, using a black dial. During the 50's, Rolex also patented the now famous 'cyclops' date magnifier and installed it on the Datejust.
