EskoArtwork previews software for flexible packaging
Posted by : ellietootoo3EskoArtwork, the pre-production technology firm, has shown patentedsoftware for generating computer impressions of flexible packagingat Interpack today (29 April).
The new Studio Toolkit for Flexibles is due to be launched in thenext fortnight. It is an update to its interactive Esko Visualizer, launched six months ago, which enables packaging designers togenerate interactive on-screen models of packaging.
The software can incorporate information about substrates, inks andspecial finishes, as well as a range of lighting conditions to showthe designer how the pack would look in, for example, asupermarket.
Flexible packs can be filled on-screen with a range of substances, including air and liquid, to mimic the pack’s behaviour whenmanufactured and filled.
EskoArtwork will also launch new software at next month's Drupa. The 'folding capability', which the firm's packaging innovationexpert John Elworthy described as "currently in an alphaversion", will be an extension of its Dynamic Content tool.
The tool uses computer-aided design (CAD) to show foldableon-screen models, while on-pack information is updated separatelyusing XML codes.

Sabet, who lives in Huntington Beach, Calif., tried to research heroptions. Because part of the dress code also discouragesbody-clinging attire, even surf vests or rash guards were tooskin-tight. She even considered dry suits, which divers use, but at$800 to $2,000 a suit, it was too costly.
Hiking pants and swim caps didn't fare well, either, so Sabet, amicrobiology scientist at Cal State Long Beach, decided to start aline of Halal swimwear, called Splashgear. The idea was to createswimsuits that would conform to the Muslim dress code, but also becomfortable and fashionable.
The original suit design was based on surf wear and featured floralHawaiian print separates: the "Island Shirt" -- alooser-fitting version of the rash guard, with more fabric in thechest area and a tapered waist -- and swim pants, basically boardshorts turned into straight-leg pants.
A swim cap and swim hood, similar to what scuba divers mightalready wear, completed the suit.

That was in 2005. Today, Sabet has customers all over the world, including Canada, Asia and Australia. She has updated the design ofthe suit. Gone is the Hawaiian print, replaced by suits in solidcolors with an athletic stripe down the side.

Back in the early part of my career, a particular company filed forbankruptcy protection. After quite a long time in court workingthrough the myriad issues that companies in bankruptcy have to workthrough, the company came out of bankruptcy with a brand new stockissuance and a new lease on life. The only problem is that many ofits previous shareholders had no idea that the new stock hadnothing to do with the old stock.
The company kept its name and it issued new stock with the samename as its old stock. For years after the company had came out ofbankruptcy, clients would come into my brokerage office and try tosell the old stock for the price quoted in the newspaper. It wascruel and unusual punishment, I thought. We had to tell people thattheir stock was worthless.
